A DANGEROUS driver who fled the scene after colliding with a wall has narrowly avoided prison.

Jaymi Carswell failed to stop after hitting a wall on Barrow's Crellin Street, South Cumbria Magistrates' Court was told.

The 28-year-old admitted dangerous driving and failing to stop following the incident on August 4.

According to court papers, Carswell attempted to evade the police during the 'prolonged' incident after driving dangerously on Abbey Road and Rawlinson Street.

Magistrates sentenced her to 24 weeks in prison - suspended for a year.

The court said there would be a 'significant' impact on Carswell and her children were she jailed.

The defendant, of Portsmouth Street on Walney, was handed a year-long driving ban for the offences.
