Tesco’s Barrow shop has a dedicated space in-store to raise awareness surrounding mental health and wellbeing struggles.
The Tesco Extra Supermarket Store on Hindpool Road is offering a free hot drink and a chat to anyone wanting to pop in.
The coffee shop area in store will be open every evening from 5pm to 8pm, hosting Andy's Man Club, Furness Samaritans, Salvation Army and Usdaw Union.
Tesco’s Community Champion Nathaniel Welham said the ‘chat and brew’ will provide people with someone to talk to as well as helpful leaflets to take away.
Nathaniel was approached by Usdaw Union representative Trish Eldar about having an event at Tesco on Thursday but Nathaniel suggested a whole week of events.
“I said let's do every night during the week, so folk leaving work, or shopping etc, can pop in, have a complimentary brew and chat or just to take a leaflet,” he said.
“A few of our store colleagues have lost friends to Mental Health problems or feel that they can't talk about issues.
“Most workplaces now have a programme for Mental Health and Wellbeing, thankfully, a few groups have taken an open stretch for our community.”
