Barrow and Furness MP Michelle Scrogham visited Amentum to learn about the company's contributions to defence manufacturing and the nuclear industry in Cumbria.

The global engineering and technology solutions company, located in the Trinity Enterprise Centre on Ironworks Road, has recently merged with part of Jacobs—an entity with a nearly 20-year presence in Barrow.

Though the Amentum name is new to the area, the company has a 'firm foothold' and a team of about 60 people.

Ms Scrogham met employees and apprentices who have become professionals in engineering, project management, and health and safety.

She also learned about Amentum's support for initiatives to promote science-based careers among school pupils.

Ms Scrogham said: "Amentum is striving to make a positive social impact by giving back to the local community.

"It’s important for the economic future of this area that companies put down roots and create jobs for people who are here seven days a week and supporting apprenticeships is a great way to do that.”
