A SIGN put up by the new owner of Askam Pier has paid tribute to her brothers and pledged it 'for the future enjoyment of families.'
The pier, jutting out into the Duddon Estuary, was originally constructed to serve the iron ore mining industry. It sits on a plot of land totalling one acre, which went on the market in August.
The land, at the western end of Parklands Drive, appeared at auction with a guide price of £5000, and sold for £7,500.
The listing stated that it offered 'fantastic' views of the Irish sea and the western Lakeland fells. It is often used by locals as part of a walk around the village.
The sign states that the pier was purchased by Christine Mills (nee Tyson).
It reads: "In loving memory of her brothers John and Harry and for the future enjoyment of the families of Askam."
A footnote asks those accessing the pier to be 'mindful.'
