A SCHOOL has launched a fundraising campaign to renovate its memorial garden which commemorates former pupils who have died.
Dowdales School in Dalton wants the space to serve as a 'quiet reflection area' for Year 11 students during their series of exams. The Nelson Street school has set up a GoFundMe with a £4,000 goal for the garden.
A spokesperson said: "The Dowdales School Memorial Garden remembers students we have lost and seems a very fitting and peaceful place for our Year 11 to have the space to ‘breathe’ during their exams."
The school launched the fundraising campaign to coincide with World Mental Health Day. On Thursday, October 10 students and staff are invited to wear yellow accessories to show support for the day.
Dowdales is asking students, staff and the wider community for their donations and support for the garden.
"Thank you for helping us re-create a meaningful place in memory of students and in support for our Year 11 students," the spokesperson added.
