A CRIMINAL with 100 offences on his record was caught in possession of Class B drugs after being arrested at a public house in Ulverston, a court heard.
Robert Robertson, of Little Union Street, Ulverston was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on October 3 after pleading guilty to being in possession of cannabis.
Prosecutor Eugene Cross said PC Burrows and PC Murdock were searching another male at the Kings Arms in Ulverston on August 28 last year when Robertson interrupted the procedure.
As a result, PC Murdock attempted to conduct a search of the defendant, but the court heard Robertson initially walked off and then resisted the officer in the exercise of her powers.
Mr Cross said the defendant was arrested and taken into custody where a ‘small quantity of cannabis’ was located following a search of his body.
The court was told Robertson was 37 years old and had 40 previous convictions for 104 offences.
He was originally charged with intentionally obstructing an authorised person in exercise of a section 23 power to search a person for drugs, but the prosecution offered no evidence on the charge.
Robertson, who chose not to be legally represented, told His Honour Judge Richard Archer he was in receipt of ESA benefit receiving a total of £90 per week.
Judge Archer imposed a band C fine of £105 for the offence and ordered that Robertson pay court costs of £85 and a £43 statutory surcharge.
