A flagship site in Ulverston has earned a national accolade just months after it reopened following extensive flooding.
The JT Atkinson Builders Merchant showroom on North Lonsdale Road was recognised at this year's Builders Merchant Journal Awards.
This saw it named as the Kitchen and Bathroom Showroom of the Year, meaning the team's efforts to bring it back to life have been more than worthwhile.
In March, the company welcomed customers back to the site after a complete refurbishment.
The showroom and all of the existing bathroom displays were flooded by five inches of water in 2023, which brought forward plans by six months to deliver a 'brand new concept' for the business.
Jamie Atkinson, the Managing Director, said “We’re delighted with the win at this year's Builders Merchant Journal Awards.
"It has been a real labour of love and the team have created a space that is welcoming, modern and is sure to inspire many local home-owners to embark on their own home improvement projects, big or small.”
During the project, the 288 sqm showroom was completely renovated and redesigned to allow for 15 more bathroom displays, the introduction of 11 new brands, and six new product categories.
The project included fitting floor to ceiling windows along the showroom’s front elevation, removing the suspended ceilings to allow for a more 'light and airy space' and installing a new roof, a new lighting scheme, air conditioning, and flood prevention measures.
The team at the JT Atkinson showroom provide free advice, 3D bathroom design and work alongside customers' chosen installers to make sure their project runs smoothly from start to finish.
JT Atkinson is a seventh generation family-run building supplies company with 37 branches located in Cumbria, Yorkshire and the North East.
Having began in 1860, its 164-year experience meant even the significant flooding was seen as an opportunity to grow and expand.
