EQUIPMENT is being removed as a town council proceeds with closing a playground near Bowness.
Mill Rise playground is in an residential area at the end of Droomer Lane and sits adjacent to the Lakes Line.
Two other small neighbourhood playgrounds in Windermere and Bowness, Mill Beck and School Knott, were also discussed in the consultation. All three were identified 'as being in need of significant improvement' and these two were upgraded in April 2024.
In terms of the Mill Rise playground, town clerk Sally Parkyn said: "This site has minimal equipment, is poorly situated in a damp and shaded area, and is infrequently used.
"Last month, we had to remove the swing seats as they were no longer fit for use."
The rest of the remaining equipment will go in the autumn. Ms Parkyn said that she is consulting with colleagues on how best to re-wild the site.
"It has always been an unsuitable location for a children's playground," she said.
