Will Young was reported to have walked off stage in Cumbria last month after dealing with a group of 'selfish' individuals unlike anything he says he's had to deal with in over two decades.

The 45-year-old former Pop Idol winner performed at The Coro, Ulverston on September 7 after his show was moved from the Forum Theatre due to the discovery of asbestos.

Part way through his performance, Young walked off stage with his musical director due to members of the audience reportedly being disrespectful to only them, but to fellow audience members and staff too.

He returned a short time later to carry on the show for the fans who had come to see him perform and took to social media after the show to apologise for the disruption.

As part of an Instagram story, Young said: "I'm so sorry to the audience members who wanted to hear a special unique show to tonight in a venue I've never been able to get to get to before so I was excited, especially in Cumbria, a place I am very fond of.

"In 23 years I've never experienced some members of an audience being so disrespectful to their fellow concert goers as well as myself and Christian up on stage.

"I walked off with my musical director and we decided to carry on for the people who wanted to hear all the songs.

"It's sad how selfish some people can be and I'm very appreciative of the people who wanted to experience great pop and musicisanship from Christian an myself.

"I'm also sorry that the lovely staff member had to deal with some awful individuals."

Will Young later addressed the disruption on social media (Image: Instagram) Westmorland and Furness council confirmed that the audience members were noisy and repeatedly leaving their seats.

After being warned by Coro staff members, the group left the venue of their own accord.

A spokesperson for Westmorland and Furness Council said: "Staff at the Coro had cause to speak to a small group of people about their behaviour during the recent Will Young show.

"Unfortunately, some people in the group were being noisy and repeatedly leaving their seats, causing disturbance and upset to other concert-goers.

"At one point Will Young also left the stage and expressed his frustration at the disturbances. Following complaints from members of the audience, Coro staff spoke to the members of the group, initially requesting they be more considerate and then, when the disturbances continued, issuing them with a final verbal warning that if their conduct continued they would be asked to leave.

"The group left the Coro shortly after of their own accord.

"We want everyone who attends events at our venues to able to enjoy the show. People pay good money to buy a ticket and it is always unfortunate when disruptive behaviour like this spoils the experience, for others in the audience and for the performers. We would ask that people respect the acts and their fellow audience members and act considerately at all times."
