Speaking on the Coniston Mountain Rescue Team Facebook page, a spokesperson said: "Although we had been stood down, the Team Leader rang the caller again, offering assistance to check the gentleman over and transport him back to where their vehicle was parked.

"However the party was happy to continue as they were, and so the stand down message was sent out."

In total, a dozen team members attended for half an hour - including those who didn’t make it to the base before being stood down.

Conditions were described as 'cloudy and wet'.
