MUNCASTER Castle will be hosting a festive owl and bird event.

‘Silent Night: a festive evening with owls at Muncaster’ on Saturday, December 14.

The event allows visitors to see the birds take flight under the night sky, offering a glimpse of the secret lives of the birds of prey.

A Muncaster Castle spokesperson said: "The night will begin at 6pm where you will be seated to a delicious two-course meal cooked by Muncaster’s head chef. Dinner is to be served in the Castle’s Drawing Room which will be adorned with Christmas decorations.

"Then, after dessert, a talk will be given on our important conservation work with owls at Muncaster.

"Once night has fallen, our first display of owls will take place in the woodland arena, where we will introduce a variety of species, from our tiniest resident, to the largest. Expert commentary will describe some of the unique adaptations that makes an owl an owl.

"Guests will then enjoy a short tour under the trees - guided along the woodland path by candlelight, all whilst listening out for the wild owls that call Muncaster home.

"The second display of the night will commence in our wildflower meadow, with the castle acting as a stunning backdrop. With the help of special lighting effects, we will lighten up the arena enough for human eyes to be able to glimpse the owls in flight.

"The finale of this display will conclude with a very special arctic species of owl, who will rightly take centre stage in this winter wonderland."
