A LORRY carrying 'thousands' of chickens overturned this morning (October 1) on a busy road crossing the Yorkshire Dales.
In the early hours (2.10am) the articulated lorry carrying the chickens crashed near Sedbergh. The Police have closed the A684 in both directions from Kendal turn off (Ingmire Hall) to Old Scotch Road (Killington) while accident investigation work is carried out.
As of 8.30am, South Lakes Police said that recovery may take until lunchtime due to 'complications with the scene and vehicle.'
Local reports suggest that the lorry was carrying up to 5000 chickens.
Cumbria Police confirmed that the HGV was carrying chickens and that they were being transferred to another lorry.
