A MAN threatened to stab his mother if she did not give him money to buy drugs, a court heard.

Daniel Hill, of no fixed abode, was ‘hostile’ when his mother picked him up in Barrow on September 28, prosecutor Lee Dacre said.

South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court heard Hill – aged 26 - approached his mother later on that day saying he needed money to buy Valium and cocaine.

Mr Dacre said Hill threatened he would ‘stab’ her and ‘punch her hard in the face’ if she did not comply.

Hill was arrested after his mother had called the police and was aggressive towards officers in the process, the court was told.

Hill pleaded guilty to an offence of using threatening/ abusive words / behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress in court on September 30.

In mitigation, Andy Gallagher said his client ‘never had any intention to hurt her’:

Mr Gallagher added: “It is clear the defendant was intoxicated at the time in some way. He has no recollection of what was or what was not said.

“She originally went out to look for him in order to assist the police. He has admitted to making the comments alleged but disputes he would have ever carried out those threats.”

Magistrates fined Hill £120 for the offence and ordered that he pay a £48 surcharge and £85 in court costs.
