A BARROW Police officer has announced that he is leaving the force after 16 years.

PC Martin Hayes, who covers Roose, has become known for his humorous posts on social media about his job. In his parting message, he joked: "Today I solved my final crime. Some sneaky devil stole my posh office chair, this was quickly located and returned to its rightful owner."

He added 'unfortunately the rest of the team aren't quite as funny as me.'

Barrow Police's social media has recently given updates about car crime in the town in the style of Lady Whistledown from the hit TV series Bridgerton, and using an image of sad Ronald McDonald when they caught an uninsured delivery driver.

"Thank you for the interaction with me over the last few months, it has genuinely been a pleasure," PC Hayes said.

He thanked the pupils of Roose Primary School, who surprised him with a card and some chocolates. "Thank you from the very bottom of my heart," he said.
