One of the UK's 'largest' engineering companies has opened a second office in Barrow.

BGEN, which specialises in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation, has expanded its presence in the town, opening a second office in Trinity Enterprise Centre.

The move comes as the business eyes 'growth opportunities' with BAE Systems and other customers across various industries such as energy, manufacturing, and nuclear.

Glyn Shawcross, engineering and design director at BGEN, said: "We’re expanding our operations in Barrow-in-Furness to help service a number of client requests.

"As we expand in the area, we have a firm commitment to recruit locally, and we will also expand our support of schools, colleges, and community initiatives."

The new office will focus on engineering, design, and project management, complementing the skills set of the existing office which specialises in electrical, installation, and instrumentation works.

This means businesses in the area will now have access to advice and support on every aspect of the project cycle, including engineering, design, project controls, planning, procurement, risk management, construction methodology, health and safety, quality, environment, and sustainability.

BGEN's increased presence will also see the company broaden its support of schools, colleges, and community initiatives.

Currently the main commercial sponsor of the Barrow Raiders' Girls side, the company is actively seeking sponsorship opportunities with other sports clubs in the area.

As part of its ESG plan, BGEN is keen to partner with initiatives in the area, including charities and food banks.

This plan will also involve linking with schools and colleges to help the future generation understand the important role of engineering in the world and attract more people to the profession.
