The wish of a teenage girl who died of cancer is being granted this weekend through a returning event.

Alice Pyne, who lived in Ulverston, was just 14 when she was given a terminal prognosis but, wanting to make the most of her time, she started an online blog detailing her hopes and dreams.

One of the wishes she made was to create a charity that would allow seriously ill children to enjoy a family holiday, which has taken the form of Alice's Escapes.

A second wish before her death in 2013 was for that charity to host an annual dog show in the area, inspired by her love of puppy Mabel.

Her mum, Victoria Pennington-Pyne, shared earlier this month that, thanks to the support of Puppy Pals Cumbria, the event would be coming back to Ulverston this year.

Alice's Dog Show will take place on Saturday, September 28 at the Puppy Pals Training Field, Birkrigg Common, from 11am to 3pm.

Victoria said: "We are determined to keep Alice's legacy alive and delighted that all profits from the dog show will benefit our charity, Alice's Escapes, which in turn helps us to help families at a truly awful time in their lives.

"We have some great prizes coming in and we can't wait to welcome our charity supporters to what promises to be a great day for dogs and owners alike."

Since its creation, Alice's Escapes has helped over 400 families from across the Furness community and nationwide.

The dog show this weekend will feature a variety of companion classes, as well as 'have a go' sessions to introduce your pets to new activities.

There will also be an opportunity for pet owners to talk to qualified trainers, discussing any concerns they might have.

A number of businesses have already backed the event, including Lakesloos and Event Support, JR Pet Products, Millies Wolfheart, and Tug-E-Nuff.
