A popular marathon in the heart of the Lake District has reached the finish line after nearly two decades.
On Monday, September 23, the Brathay Trust announced the Windermere Marathon would not be returning in 2025.
The charity, which supports over 7,000 young people every year, said the money they were getting out of the event was not 'good enough' to make it practical.
A spokesperson from the trust commented: "Our fundraising events are delivered with the sole purpose of raising additional funds so we can do even more vital work with young people.
"The Windermere Marathon has been a key event in our calendar for many years, and we are very proud of it.
"However, it requires a significant amount of resources to organise both in time and cost, and has not consistently given Brathay a good enough return on this investment."

The marathon would have been approaching its 18th year, having grown to be a beloved spot on the local calendar for runners and fundraisers alike.
Whilst sharing the 'disappointing' news, the trust reassured supporters that 'new and sustainable' fundraising activities were already being planned.

They added: "We are pleased to confirm that the iconic Brathay 10-in-10 will still take place on May 8 2025 with a lively final-day celebration at Brathay Hall, honouring the incredible fundraisers and the young people they support.
"The Langdale Marathon and Half Marathon, as well as the Christmas Pudding 10K, will still take place in October and December of this year, and we look forward to seeing you there.
"We are deeply grateful for your continued support and look forward to sharing updates on our future plans soon."
