A special concert is taking place this coming weekend to mark the anniversary of a Barrow church.

St Mark's, found on Buccleuch Street, will be turning 146 years old on Thursday, September 26.

To mark the occasion, it will be hosting a concert on Saturday, September 28 from 7.30pm featuring the Dalton Town Band and the Sound Guys - who are making their debut after forming in July.

Built in 1878, St. Mark's was one of four temporary churches built to serve the growing population of Barrow and was designed by Lancaster architects Paley and Austin.

All four churches were built on the same day and were dedicated to the four Evangelists, with the Archbishop of York - along with the Bishops of Carlisle, Hereford, and Seder and Man - officiating at the openings.

Whilst admission to the concert is free on the day, a collection bucket will be used to raise funds for St Mary's Hospice.
