Piel Island is set to feature next month in a new documentary coming to More4.

'Our Tiny Islands' will premiere on Wednesday, September 25, with Barrow included in the fourth and final episode of the series on October 16.

The premise of the show is to meet the people who have shaped over 6,000 islands that make up the United Kingdom.

Whilst Piel Island's Ship Inn will be one of the stars of the show, the episode will also feature insight from John Murphy, a local historian and expert who has been showcasing the island to visitors for over 30 years.

He said: "I'm very excited about this - it's going nationwide so we're getting a massive amount of publicity for the island.

"I do hope people get the chance to watch it because I'm quite excited about seeing it on TV."

'Our Tiny Islands' aims to examine the 'nitty gritty of island life' and celebrate the unique and breath-taking landscapes.

Narrated by Meera Syal, the show will capture how tough island life can be, breaking down some of the misconceptions that surround the lifestyle.

Piel Island will feature alongside The Isles of Scilly, Bardsey Island off the coast of Wales, and St Kilda in Scotland in the fourth episode.

Alongside John's accounts, the show will meet 'King of Piel' Aaron Sanderson, a local publican.

He gets the chance to show off the fact that he is the only 'other' King in England, and how this serves as a draw for people who come across to visit from mainland England.

And the episode will also bring the island's history to life, focusing on its occupation by German mercenaries, which makes it one of the last places in England to have been invaded.

You can catch the new series on More4 on Wednesday, September 25 at 9pm.
