PLANS to convert a four-bedroom house in Barrow into a house of multiple occupancy (HMO) have been given the go-ahead.

Westmorland and Furness Council has approved plans from Tapres Ltd to convert a detached property on Carlisle Street into a seven-bedroom HMO.

The proposed HMO will consist of a kitchen/lounge area and three bedrooms on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second floor. Plans show the proposed HMO will also have a garden and all the bedrooms have ensuites.

A statement from the applicant says: “The property is located in a sustainable location in close proximity to the city centre where occupiers are less likely to be dependent upon a motor vehicle.

“A secure cycle storage space for 4 x cycles will be provided in the rear garden. Overall, the development would not cause any notable harm to the amenities of neighbouring residents.”

As part of plans the garage door will be replaced by a window to facilitate the creation of the kitchen/lounge area as well as a bedroom.

Planning documents state: “No extensions or alterations are proposed to the property. Therefore, it is not considered that the application would have a detrimental impact upon the amenity of surrounding properties.

“As there are no external changes proposed, the proposal is not considered to impact the amenity of the neighbouring dwellings.”

Westmorland and Furness Council approved the application on September 17.
