A couple who decided to elope in the stunning Lake District celebrated their big day with only one guest – their puppy Ozzy.
Nina Goudie, a 39-year-old Nurse Practitioner from South Shields, married Gavin Harper, a 37-year-old from Gateshead.
They met in the ready meal aisle of Asda.
Gavin said: “Nina liked that I offered to cook her dinner, and I liked Nina's smile.”
The pair got engaged in November 2016 when Gavin surprised Nina by creating a heart out of Haribo sweets, which was laid out on the bed ready for when she came home from work.
They tied the knot at the Lakeside Hotel and Spa at Newby Bridge on Tuesday September 3.
Nina and Gavin chose to elope with only their puppy Ozzy.
They said: “We were always interested in eloping and the Lakes seemed like the perfect place.”
Remembering the big day, they said: “We felt very lucky that the weather on the day was perfect which meant we were able to get married outside. Being that we eloped, the day was very relaxed.
“The people that helped us from florist to hair and make-up and photographer were all great and really made our day feel really special.”
Gavin took the dog to Fell Foot Park for a walk in the morning whilst Nina was getting ready.
“We were really happy that we were able to accommodate our dog within the day, having him with us as we got married," they said.
A standout moment for them both was seeing RAF jets flying over the lake whilst they were getting photographs taken.
They said: “In very us style we were back in normal clothes, walking our dog within a few hours of getting married.”
The couple’s honeymoon plans are on hold at the moment as they are renovating their home.
“We very much plan on celebrating our wedding with a great honeymoon in the future,” they said.
The new Mr and Mrs Harper said they would like to thank photographer Tiree Dawson, Nina's hair and makeup artist Lucy Pearson and florist The Flower House.
They added: “Finally, a big thank you to our families who understood that what was best for us was to celebrate our wedding as we did. We are planning on celebrating with everyone soon.”
