Crook Folk Dance Group in Kendal celebrated its 50th anniversary over the weekend.

(Image: Crook Folk Dance Group) Following a small advertisement in a September 1974 edition of the Westmorland Gazette, ten people met and Crook Folk Dance Group was born.

The group celebrated their 50th anniversary on Saturday September 14 with a ‘Reelfolk Day of Dance’ event at Burton Memorial Hall.

Ian Jones, the club’s founder, began the event with an afternoon of Traditional English Country Dances.

The evening featured guests Martyn Harvey, Norman Bearon and Hilary Herbert as well as a celebratory cake.

All dances throughout the day were accompanied by Ian’s band ‘Kendal Green’.

Crook Folk Dance Group continues to meet on Thursdays at Crook Memorial Hall between 7.30pm and 9.45pm.

Everyone is welcome whether a complete beginner or more experienced dancer.  Further information and contact details can be found on their website www.crookfdg.co.uk .
