A NEW gym that plans on staying open until 11pm could be coming to Millom.

W Milligan & Sons has submitted a planning application to Cumberland Council to transform the car showroom on Market Street into a gym.

A Facebook post from the company says the current car dealership will move to their other site in Haverigg at the end of the year.

According to plans the whole unit will be transformed into a gym and the existing office will be rearranged to become changing rooms and a physio room.

Planning documents state: “The vacant unit is considered an appropriate location for such a use in the town centre, with good transport links for sustainable travel to the site. The use as a gym promotes healthy living and lifestyles.”

The planning statement says the proposed gym plans on being open from 4am to 11pm in a bid to cater for Sellafield workers.

Plans add: “The facility to be provided is a new start up business, as they feel that there is space in the leisure and fitness market for the type of gym facility that they will provide.

“It is aimed at a different market to the other facilities within both the settlement and wider Borough and aims to bring more users into the leisure sector and enable additional healthy living and lifestyles.”

This planning application is currently undergoing public consultation.
