A bakery in Walney is competing against its sister shop to be named as the best in Furness.

Back in August The Mail launched the 'Best Bakery 2024' awards, celebrating all the sweet treats and delicious food that the peninsula has to offer.

The competition initially saw readers nominate their favourites with 10 finalists named following this hotly contested process.

For nearly two weeks, readers of The Mail and local residents have been voting for the businesses they believe deserve the accolade.

There is still time to make sure that your voice is heard with votes being accepted up until Saturday, September 14.

To better celebrate these havens of baked goods, The Mail has been running a series of special features designed to uncover the histories of each bakery and put their products in the spotlight.

The final edition in the series sees us technically return to where it all began, with The Bakery on Amphitrite Street in Walney.

The business has become so popular with locals that its sister site in Barrow, found on Sutherland Street, was also named in the top 10 and was the first stop on this journey last week.

It is no wonder that the two establishments have grown to be staples of their communities.

One resident commented: "They have beautiful pies, cakes and bread, and it also needs to be the said that the staff are helpful and cheery."

Another frequent customer said: "They have the best pies in Barrow in my opinion.

"Lovey staff in an old school bakery, and their huge cakes are like what you used to get back in the day."
