Residents of a town in South Cumbria are being asked to secure their rubbish following a missed bin round.

Dalton with Newton Council has urged people to secure their recycling after collections of the red bins had to be cancelled on Friday, September 6.

Westmorland and Furness Council have now advised that the next collection will now take place on the next scheduled day which will be September 20.

Extra bags of recycling will be collected with the grey household waste bins next week, however.

A town council spokesperson said: "If you place excess recycling in a bag and place out with your grey refuse bin it will be collected this week.

"In the meantime please secure your recycling bins in the windy weather or take your bin back onto your property to avoid rubbish ending up on the street."
