A popular takeaway in south Cumbria has announced that it will be closing its doors.

Sizzle In, found on Union Street in Ulverston, has been serving a loyal batch of customers for nearly two decades.

However, the owners announced at the start of the month that the well loved business would now be coming to an end.

Afsan Darani said: "With great regret, we have had to make a hard decision to close our well established business after 18 years due to a change in personal circumstances.

"We will truly be sad not seeing our loyal and regular customers - thank you very much for your business and support for such a long time."

In recent months, the takeaway has been operating on reduced hours, though the closure has now been made a permanent one.

In September last year, plans were submitted to transform the site into a new self-catering holiday let.

The original planning documents suggested the development would create two bedrooms, a bathroom and an entrance/exit area on one side of the property, and a kitchen or living area and storage on the other side.

It is yet to be confirmed as to whether these plans will now go ahead or be pursued once more following the decision to close the takeaway.

In response to the news, residents have already been sharing their love for the takeaway, with many expressing disappointment that time has been called on the business, whilst also sharing their thanks for the Sizzle In team.

One local said: "They're going to be missed by the community, their food has always been excellent, and I wish them all the best for the future."

Another person commented: "I always loved their food any my daughter would only ever eat their food - I'm sorry they're having to give it all up."
