A thunderstorm warning has been issued for the entirety of Cumbria today (September 1).
The Met Office has issued the yellow weather warning, which is in place until 11.59pm.
Areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to move north across England, into parts of Wales and later into Scotland throughout the day.
The extent of these thunderstorms remains 'very uncertain' according to the Met Office, with some places potentially seeing 30 to 40mm of rain fall in less than an hour and 'perhaps over 60-80 mm in one or two places'.
Frequent lightning strikes and hail will be additional hazards, whilst people have been advised to take special care if their area is susceptible to flash flooding.
There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
Spray and sudden flooding could also lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
