A group in Barrow have called on their 100-year past to take part in a recent nationwide event.

The Furness Amateur Radio Society (FARS) stationed themselves at Canal Foot in Ulverston on Saturday, August 24 for BIWOTA (British Inland Waterways on the Air) 2024.

This is a field day event with radio stations set up by rivers, canals, lakes and other bodies of water throughout the UK.

There was a station in Scotland sited at the Falkirk Wheel, whilst some groups were also sited on narrow boats travelling up and down the UK canal network.

The FARS station, using callsign G2DT - awarded to the Furness Society over 100 years ago - made sure to get involved too.

This saw them connect south Cumbria to some of the 29 registered BIWOTA stations, as well as other groups across the country.
