THE building used by a Barrow-based charity could become flats under new plans.

Lesser Kings Hall, on Hartington Street, is currently occupied by Cumbria CVS, which offers training and advice to other voluntary sector organisations.

The application has been submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council by Velkov Architects to determine if prior approval is required to turn the office building into four flats.

According to the documents: "This conversion will result in four two-bedroom apartments, with two situated on the ground floor and two on the upper floor."

The documents add the site is in a 'convenient location' within walking distance of the main transport links and the town centre. They also state that it includes four parking spaces, which means that each flat will have a designated spot.

The building underwent renovation in 2005, according to the supporting statement, and documentation from building control indicated the asbestos was detected but properly removed during this process.

In terms of the impact of noise, it adds: "The property shares a wall with Furness Gymnastics. There are no existing records detailing the treatment of this wall during the last renovation. Therefore, prior to the commencement of any works on site, the contractor will be required to assess the current wall construction."
