A flash of lightning struck one of South Cumbria's most prominent landmarks this weekend in the aftermath of Storm Lilian.
Footage taken by an onlooker shows the lightning hitting the Sir John Barrow monument in Ulverston on Saturday evening (August 24) just before a loud thunderclap rang out overhead.
The 100ft tall structure stands on the 450ft high summit of Hoad Hill so is at greater risk of being hit.

The monument was struck just 21 days after completion in January 1851.
The structure has now been checked over by engineers to assess any damage.
Senior lighthouse keeper Graham Scrogham said: "The guys have been up there and have checked over the monument today.
"Happy to report all’s well. It’s not the first time the monument has been struck but I don’t think it’s been caught on video before.
"The lightning conduction is tested every year and the monument has two copper straps which run down the sides.
"Thankfully, they did their job properly and no electric circuits were blown."
