Pupils at Windermere School are celebrating after achieving an impressive GCSE results haul.

The Year 11 students achieved a value-added score of +0.67, meaning they gained an average of two-thirds of a grade more in each GCSE compared to the national average.

This year, 33.8 per cent of all grades were between 7 and 9, equivalent to A*/A, and 84 per cent were between grades 9 and 4, equivalent to A*-C.

The Year 10 pupils who took one-year science courses achieved an average grade of 5.7, with 18 per cent attaining the top grade 9, and 39 per cent achieving grades 7-9.

Many pupils take a wide range of subjects at GCSE, covering all areas of the English Baccalaureate which is 'excellent' preparation for the breadth of the International Baccalaureate offered at Sixth Form.

She will be joined by Silas T, who achieved an 'amazing' +2.55 personal value-added score in his GCSEs.

Joining the International Baccalaureate Diploma course with nine GCSE grades 7-9 as an Art Scholar is Aarpui J.

Also achieving 'impressive' personal value-added scores were Vivienne S and Maisie D, receiving a +2.34.

Maisie achieved four 9s, four 8s, and a 7.

Frank Thompson, headteacher at Windermere School, said: "After the fantastic achievements of our Year 13 in the International Baccalaureate and vocational examinations, it is really exciting to see a new cohort joining us in the Sixth Form having done so well at GCSE.

"We are a non-selective school, and these results show the progress achieved from the hard work of both pupils and staff.

"Pupils ranging from the most academically able to those who find academic studies more challenging thrive at Windermere due to our small classes and individual attention."

The school offers a mix of IGCSEs and GCSEs, which is said to suit the pupils well.

Universities draw no distinction between the two examination types, and this combination ensures that the school can continue to offer courses best suited to their pupils' aspirations.

At Sixth Form, multiple pathways are offered, including the International Baccalaureate Diploma, Career Pathways, and a Vocational route.

Students can study Business BTEC, Adventure NCFE, or even both.

The majority of students go on to higher education, including Russell Group and QS World top universities as well as graduate apprenticeships with leading employers.
