Paul Hornby, the current Barrow AFC chairman, said Mr Keen offered him support and advice when he first joined the club.

He said: "When we took over it was quite a dark time and he came over and he offered his help straight away. He will go down as a legend in terms of the history of The Bluebirds.

"He always had a friendly word. He was never too busy to have a chat with you.

"He was just a lovely guy. Everyone will remember him for the fact that he literally saved the football club - I don't think we would have a football club today if it wasn't for Brian."

There is a book of memorial at the club's reception for those who wish to pay their respects to Mr Keen.
