A WALKER was saved by a mountain team after breaking an ankle near a tarn.
Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team was called to a walker with a broken ankle on a path near Boretree Tarn near Newby Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the team said: "The stretcher wheel proved invaluable again on the narrow, overgrown path down to the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust ambulance.
"We wish the casualty a speedy recovery."
The team is still fundraising for a permanent base to replace the two industrial units they rent.
The team are on standby 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and have been since 1962. They cover an area of approximately 655km square and are all unpaid volunteers.
