The Furness branch of the RSPCA branch has blasted 'irresponsible' owners after a cat's traumatic birthing experience.
Pepper, a young cat that came into the branch's care a few weeks ago, was classed as 'semi-feral'.
A couple of days ago, she gave birth to two kittens with only one that survived.

Pepper was not feeding her remaining kitten and RSPCA volunteers grew concerned that there may still be unborn babies inside her.
She was taken to Wild Side Vets in Barrow where a C Section was performed.
This revealed one deceased kitten with another live one successfully born. It sadly died later that day, however.
After returning from the vet, the branch set up a 'sum up' page to raise money for Pepper's surgery which cost £800.
Wet kitten food was also needed to try and keep the last remaining kitten alive.
Unfortunately, this little one also did not make it and died on August 18.
After the death, the Furness branch thanked everybody who had donated however had strong words for cat owners.
Taking to its Facebook page, a member of the Furness branch said: "Pepper has gone through a pregnancy, the trauma of giving birth then having surgery because her owner didn’t neuter her, she isn’t even one and this probably isn’t her first litter
"We are so fed up of seeing posts about pregnant cats, kittens looking for homes, etc.
"Stop being irresponsible and get your cats neutered.
"We can offer financial assistance. The cost of raising a litter of kittens until they’re 8 weeks old will cost you more than the neutering.
"Following our post asking for volunteers, people messaged explaining how their cat had recently had kittens so they have relevant experience.
"Really?! We should be impressed by that?! You’re irresponsible not experienced.
"Please stop cats from suffering and get them neutered."
