A WALKER has died 'despite extensive efforts' after suffering a cardiac arrest in a Lake District forest.

North West Ambulance Service received an urgent call to a report of a male walker in cardiac arrest on August 10 at Miterdale Forest, located in the south of Wasdale.

Helimed 58 and land ambulances were tasked by NWAS and a full callout was initiated, the rescue team said.

A team member of Wasdale Mountain Rescue in the area was asked to attend the incident directly.

The helicopter medical crew was first on the scene within about 20 minutes, quickly followed by the advance team member.

A spokesperson for WMRT said: "Tragically, despite extensive efforts, the walker did not survive. He was carefully moved off the hill and into the care of the emergency services.

"Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the walker’s family and friends."
