THE Rotary Club of Furness has handed a huge sum of money to the mother of a girl with a rare condition so she can buy a new chair.

Mìa Amor Morgan, three, from Barrow, has hydrocephalus.

She was born with excess fluid in her brain and she has other physical health conditions.

The Rotary Club learnt of her mother Sarah Forster's appeal to get Mìa Amor a new chair which would increase her independence at nursery through a Mail article. Sarah visited the club on Wednesday, August 14 as a guest.

Rotary club member Graham Postlethwaite said: "We learnt of her need to raise money to purchase a special supporting chair to enable Mia to attend nursery in September.

"Our club decided to step in and enable the purchase to be made.

"Sarah came and told us Mia Amor's story, of the operations she has endured and of her progress since joining nursery.

"President Nigel Johnson was pleased to welcome Sarah to our club and to formally hand over our donation of £1455.00. After Sarah's talk, Rotarian Mike Silver gave a vote of thanks."

Her nursery, Ramsden Robins on Thwaite Street, could not afford to pay for the chair and the cost was not being covered by the council or the NHS.

Sarah set a target of £2,853 on her GoFundMe page, and the donation from the Rotary Club met her target.

"We now have all the money for the chair for Mìa to have in nursery," Sarah said previously.

"I can't express just how much this means to us. We are so thankful to everyone that has donated on the GoFundMe and to the Rotary Club of Furness for making it possible for us to get the chair.

"We will now order the chair and hopefully it will arrive before Mìa goes back to nursery in September. This is going to benefit her so much when she goes back."
