NEW statistics have revealed a dramatic increase in crime across Barrow in June this year compared to the same month in 2023.
Analytics from the Police UK website revealed there were 106 more offences committed – an increase from 499 to 605 crimes.
The most reported crime in June 2024 was for violence and sexual offences - totalling 280. This was up from 192 offences in June last year.
The most recent statistics are from June because the information takes time to collate.
Below is the total number of 605 crimes committed in June 2024.
The district of Barrow Central and Hindpool saw the highest number of crimes committed across the region with 222 recorded.
Of those statistics reported, 88 crimes were for violence and sexual offences, whilst 49 crimes were for anti-social behaviour.
There were also 19 shoplifting offences, 18 offences of criminal damage and arson, as well as 13 offences for drug-related activity.
Other theft (10), vehicle crime (6), other crime (4), possession of weapons (3), burglary (1) and robbery (1) made up the remaining criminality for Barrow Central and Hindpool.
Salthouse, Newbarns and Roose saw the second most number of crimes reported in June this year with an overall total of 173.
The Police UK website reported that there were 85 crimes of violence and sexual offences, 31 offences of anti-social behaviour, 18 notices of public order and 15 occasions of criminal damage and arson.
Other recorded crimes in this area included drugs (8), other crime (4), shoplifting (3), other theft (3), robbery (2), vehicle crime (2), possession of weapons (1) and burglary (1).
Parkside, Hawcoat and Ormsgill recorded 118 overall crimes of which 55 were for violence and sexual offences.
There were 19 reports of anti-social behaviour offences, 13 offences of public order and 10 crimes of criminal damage and arson.
Other crime (7), drugs (4), vehicle crime (3), other theft (2), possession of weapons (2), burglary (2) and robbery (1) made up the other recorded offences.
Barrow Island and Walney saw the least number of crimes committed in June this year with 92 offences recorded.
Of those crimes, 52 consisted of violence and sexual offences whilst 12 were for criminal damage and arson.
The remaining crimes were for public order (7), anti-social behaviour (5), other theft (4), drugs (3), other crime (3), shoplifting (2), theft from a person (1) and burglary (1).
