THE lease of a fishery at Esthwaite Water in the Lake District will expire soon.

James and Jill Robertson have run Savage Fishing on The Lake District's largest privately-owned lake since 2017, having purchased a lease from the previous holder Nigel Woodhouse.

According to Savage Fishing, they will be 'moving on' in September. The estate confirmed that the lease expires 'later this year.'

A spokesperson from the estate said: "Their lease will expire later in the year and Graythwaite Estate will take the fishery back in hand. The Estate are working on plans for the future of the fishery’."

Esthwaite Water was described by Beatrix Potter as her 'favourite lake.' It attracts thousands of anglers to its shores each year, acting as a trout and pike fishery.
