A MUM with arthritis was 'over the moon' with the work a Barrow gardener and cleaner did for free as a generous gesture.

Adam Casson of GTD Services did the work in the front and back yard of 61-year-old Debra Finley.

He ran a campaign asking for nominations of those who had fallen on hard times and would appreciate his cleaning services as a means of 'putting back' into his community.

The 28-year-old then chose Debra's name out of a hat. "She couldn't even get in her front door. She was made up - she was absolutely over the moon," Adam said.

Debra's daughter Dionne Rutherford said before Debra got rheumatoid arthritis, and other medical conditions, she 'used to be quite fond of her garden.'

"She's just not able to manage it anymore," she said. "He's cut it all back for her - got rid of all the weeds. She's going to try and manage it. She just physically couldn't do it."

Dionne said her mum is 'not that mobile' and rarely leaves the house.

Of Adam, Dionne said: "There should be more people like him. If there were more people like him the world would be a better place."

She described her mum as 'happy' and 'really pleased' with the work he had done.

Adam is now hoping to do the event two times a year - at Christmas and in spring/summer.

Other work that Adam has done in the local community included cleaning a road sign warning drivers of elderly people crossing Abbey Road.

"I'm very, very busy but the little spare time I have got I'll put back into the community," Adam told The Mail previously. "I've started doing the road signs."

On offering his cleaning services for free to one customer, Adam said: "It's to give back to people who are going through hardship. I have been through hardship myself. It just brightens the place up. It gives people a lot more pride in their community. I'm trying to do my best to give back."
