PLANS lodged this year could see a new adventure golf course, a car park with more than 50 spaces, and a new convenience store in the Lake District.
Here is a lowdown of some of the major planning applications submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority in 2024 that are currently under consideration.

A new 18-hole adventure golf course could be coming to the Lake District.
In February, Choices Health Club re-submitted a planning application to the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) for an 18-hole adventure golf course at Troutbeck Bridge Swimming Pool in Windermere.
Plans were refused in July 2023 by the LDNPA after ruling the proposals would lead to the ‘deterioration of irreplaceable habitats’ among other reasons.
It is proposed the golf course will be open from 9:15 am to one hour after sunset from October to March. Then from April to September the golf course will close at 9pm or one hour after sunset, whichever is earliest.

NEW spa facilities which include a hot tub and a bar could be coming to a four-star hotel in the Lake District.
English Lakes Hotels submitted a planning application in June to the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) to construct a spa facility at the Wild Boar Hotel on Crook Road near Windermere.
The proposed spa building would be located within the grounds of the hotel and will consist of a reception, treatment areas, changing areas, a pool, a sauna building, a hot tub and a bar for guests of the spa.

NEW facilities could be coming to a Lake District village in a bid to manage the expected increase in the number of visitors after the return of Bluebird to the Ruskin Museum.
Phil Johnston lodged a planning application in April with the Lake District National Park Authority for the creation of a new coach and car park, bus stop with a shelter and toilets, as well as e-bike hire, on Lands Field off Yewdale Road in Coniston.
Proposals include the creation of 70 car parking spaces with five accessible spaces, six coach parking spaces and six bays for electric vehicle charging.
The design and access statement says the need for additional coach and car parking in Coniston is ‘long established’ and recognised by both the Lake District National Park Authority and the parish council.

A new SPAR convenience store and a petrol station could be coming to a village in the Lake District.
In April James Hall & Co submitted a planning application to the Lake District National Park Authority for the construction of a SPAR convenience store and a petrol station on land at Bragg Field in Hawkshead.
The main part of the 0.27 hectare site is located on the gardens of the former Croft Hotel and will be accessed via North Lonsdale Road.
It is proposed that the store will be open from 7am to 10pm every day and there will be 14 standard car parking spaces, two mobility spaces and two spaces with electric vehicle charging bays for the store.

PLANS have been lodged to provide space for over 200 vehicles in south Cumbria for use by local dealerships.
In June, Lloyd Motor Group submitted a planning application to the Lake District National Park Authority to provide 254 car storage spaces for use by local dealerships next to the existing South Lakes BMW dealership.
The 2.13 hectare site is currently undeveloped land and is bounded by the A590 to the north and undeveloped land to the south.
Planning documents state: “Currently, there is insufficient vehicle compound space to serve the nearby car repair workshop and showroom facilities. The proposal addresses this issue by providing 254 car storage spaces for use by local dealerships.”

PLANS have been lodged for a permanent GP surgery in the Lake District after the practice received an eviction notice from its former premises last year.
Oakbank Surgery Ltd submitted a planning application in June to the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) for a ‘permanent standalone solution’ for Haverthwaite Surgery on land at Oak Bank.
The proposed privately funded GP surgery will be located on the grounds of Oak Bank which has acted as an ‘emergency’ practice since April 2.
This comes after the surgery, which was located on land at Backbarrow, received an eviction notice from its landlord and a proposed 65 per cent hike in its rental lease agreement last year.

PROPOSALS to make a series of changes to roads in Windermere ahead of a major development including homes have been revealed.
In May, plans were submitted for highway infrastructure works on the A591 to support development at land at Orrest Head Farm.
The housing aspect of the Windermere Gateway Project is funded by Homes England, which will only release money if they are assured that the infrastructure plans are in place to enable access, according to documents.
The proposed development would include reducing the speed limit to 30mph on the approach to Windermere Gateway and the A591 width to 3.25m for each lane with a 2m central feature.
The applicant also proposes building new junctions on the A591 and Thwaites Lane.
