Free solo climbers in the Lake District will be documented as part of a BBC series.

Anna and Mat, who undertake a 100-mile challenge around the Lake District, can be seen tackling some of 'Britain's most daunting peaks' in the documentary.

The couple must complete the round-trip across the peaks within a week.

Anna and Mat are not only battling the elements, but the practicalities of life outdoors - including the reality of camping in the wilderness.

The couple’s faith in their skills will be put to the test as they navigate the challenges of their adventure.

The Lakes: Our Life on the Edge, the episode featuring Anna and Mat, is part of the new series of Our Lives, celebrating homegrown storytelling and UK life in all its diversity.

Chloe Clover, CEO and co-founder at Wander Films, which is the production company behind The Lakes: Our Life on the Edge, said: "Filming this documentary was a wild adventure for our crew, as well as Anna and Mat.

"We loved every second of it... even when we were carrying the camera kit up mountains in the rain.

"The Lake District is a special place to us, so to be able to tell this story in such a beautiful region was just incredible.

“Anna and Mat's endurance along with their love for each other and the life they live is super inspiring and I can't wait for people to see it!"

Lou Tonner, COO and co-founder at Wander Films, said: “This documentary represents everything Wander is about.

"We love the lakes and we love climbing, so to have the opportunity to film Anna and Mat taking on such a huge and scary challenge is literally a dream come true."

Other stories within the series include a Yorkshire community restoring a stately home, amateur darts players in a local pub league, and a GP who communicates with seals.

BBC TV commissioner, Diana Hare, said: “Our Lives is a rare jewel.

"A series of single documentaries that all celebrate and reflect the amazing stories of people and communities across the UK.

“Over the years it has been a wonderful opportunity for smaller production companies and first time directors and this year is no exception.

"I am excited by the developing talent we are working with.”

Each of the 12 Our Lives programmes will all air on BBC One.

The series starts on August 16 at 7.30pm with the Wales episode Two Sisters, One Goal.

Eleven episodes from the series will drop on BBC iPlayer on August 16.

BBC director of nations, Rhodri Talfan Davies, said: “Our Lives showcases the extraordinary lives of people from across the UK – their passions, their dreams, and their resilience.

“Celebrating unique stories from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England, Our Lives provides a remarkable and authentic snapshot of life across these islands.”
