Take a look inside the popular garden centre in Cumbria which has recently come to the market.

The Pot Place Garden Centre, near Penrith, announced it was up for sale last week as its long-term owners plan for retirement.

Christie & Co is steering the sale of the family-run business which sits on a 2.75-acre plot in Plumpton.

With a gross profit for 2023 highlighted at £365,660 excluding rental income, it provides a fantastic opportunity for potential buyers.

The site, which sits on a former railway station, boasts a specialist pot and garden building centre with a charming tea room, furniture centre, plants, and gift shop.

For over 20 years, Paul Thomas and Kevin Roper have been running the garden centre which sits only 10 miles from the Lake District National Park.

They have since gained a large amount of public attention for delivering medical vehicles to Ukraine amidst the conflict, a worthwhile endeavour they will continue even after retirement.

A unique feature that resonates with many visitors is the site's 90-cover cafe, which was salvaged from Abbeytown Infants School and bought on eBay for £1.

"It's been great and many customers can remember being taught in prefabs like ours as they were put up on school playgrounds during the war,” Paul said.

Paul and Kevin have brought the business to market by way of a share sale for 100 per cent shares of the limited company.

"We have thoroughly enjoyed our time developing the business so the decision to sell has not been as easy one to make, however the time has come for us to take a step back and look to retire,” Paul said.

“Having put our heart and soul into The Pot Place, we are looking for an enthusiastic new owner who is willing to invest in the business to take it forward and look after our fantastic staff who have been instrumental in our success.

"We will wait for the right buyer and our many loyal customers should be reassured that it will be business as usual during the transition to new ownership," he said.
