PLANS have been lodged to refurbish a hotel in South Cumbria to provide holiday apartments.

Mr and Mrs Read have submitted a planning application to Westmorland and Furness Council to refurbish and alter Clare House Hotel in Grange to provide four holiday apartments in the north extension of the building.

Plans involve converting extending and converting part of the building into one and two bedroom holiday lets.

According to planning documents the proposed development would include ‘improvements’ to the appearance of the building.

A design and access statement says: “The hotel has been in the family for a number of years; however, the applicants would like to make changes to the business as a way to reduce their working hours and allow the business to stay in the family as they grow older.”

The hotel, on Park Road, overlooks Morecambe Bay and consists of eighteen bedrooms.

It is proposed that external works will also be carried out to create a courtyard for those staying in the apartments.

Plans add: “The scale and appearance have been carefully considered in relation to the existing property and its setting as well as the surrounding neighbours.

“The materials proposed are in keeping and the stone facing and painted timber windows will match those already found on site.”

Westmorland and Furness Council are currently considering the application.
