Westmorland and Furness Council have announced that Kendal bypass will close for up to five nights.

Starting on Monday August 5, nighttime closures of the bypass will be in place from 8pm to 6am.

The notice is in place to enable Westmorland and Furness Highways Department to carry out urgent monitoring works to Brigsteer and Underbarrow Bridges.

The passage of all traffic along a 4.8km stretch of the road is prohibited.

Vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists cannot pass along that section of the A591 from Plumgarth roundabout, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approximately 4.8km, as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.

This notice will be in force for up to five days and the work will be carried out under nighttime working hours only.

The road is expected to be open again on Friday August 9.

A suitable alternative route will be available. 

Southbound: A5284, A6 Sandes Avenue, Blackhall Road, Stramongate, A65, Romney Road and the A6.

Northbound: A6, Lowther Street, A65 New Road, Blackhall Road, Sandes Avenue and the A5284.

In order to facilitate the alternative Northbound route, the 18 tonne weight restriction will be temporarily suspended along the A6 from its junction with Nether Bridge, extending in an overall northerly direction to its junction with the A65.
