It’s been ‘one hell of a week’ at The General Burgoyne in Great Urswick ahead of the official grand reopening.

The pub welcomed customers back with open arms this weekend and held a celebration on Saturday.

After ‘quietly’ hosting a soft opening on Sunday July 28, the pub came back to life for the first time in four months.

For its official return, the doors opened at 3pm with a barbeque and music in the evening.

The Church Street pub has closed, reopened and changed hands several times over the last few years.

On July 10, the pub announced that it was operating under new manager Jo Ritchie.

Jo was born and raised in Great Urswick and has strong family ties to the area as two generations of her family were also brought up in the village.

The new landlady revealed that her first ever job was as a waitress at the Burgoyne when she was 15 years old.

Jo said: “It’s been one hell of a week! Now I’ve had my official opening I might relax a bit.

“It is fabulous to be open and see all the village come together and have a great time.

“This week has been a bit of a whirlwind, really busy every evening and a fantastic turnout on Saturday for my official opening. I am loving every minute!

“Now to concentrate on getting the kitchen up and running and make sure ‘the pie and peas are lovely tonight’.

“I'm also really looking forward to my first guest chef night with Knife & Sole, which was an instant sell-out.

“Thanks to everyone for their help and support.”
