A RECREATION centre is being praised for implementing changes to help keep children safe.

Millom Recreation Centre, a sport and leisure facility, said 'in light of recent events' they have conducted a review of their risk assessment for all children's activities.

On Monday three young girls were killed in a knife attack in Southport at a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga event.

They have been named as six-year-old Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe, aged seven, and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar.

The suspect behind the Southport attack was named for the first time as 17-year-old Axel Muganwa Rudakubana after the judge at Liverpool Crown Court lifted reporting restrictions.

In Southport, more flowers and handwritten tributes have been left for the three girls who died in the attack.

In a Facebook post, bosses of the centre explained this is to keep the children even safer.

The post stated: "Starting this week, the front inside porch door will be locked during all children's sessions to enhance security.

"A video doorbell will be installed at the front entrance, and anyone seeking access during these sessions will need to ring the bell to be granted entry by a staff member.

"We appreciate your understanding of the necessity for these additional security measures."

Reacting to the news, the community praised the decision of the centre, with one saying they 'hope' other venues follow their example.

One comment said: "Fantastic idea and keeps the children safe from harm."

Another said: "Sad times when we need to do these things. Well done for being on the ball though."

Another added: "Thank you for caring about our little ones, and I can see a lot more centres doing the same up and down the country. Just a shame that children's innocence in something they love and enjoy has come to this."
