IT’s been another busy month of court cases which resulted in South Cumbria residents being prosecuted for drink and drug driving, as well as other motoring related offences.

Here is a round up of all the stories we covered in July.

Man crashed car after consuming four pints – drink driving sentence

A MAN has lost his licence for the second time for crashing his car after drinking four pints of beer and a shot of Sambuca.

Steven David Haggarty, of Skelwith Bridge near Ambleside, smashed his red Peugeot 207 into a wall on the A591 at Windermere just after midnight on July 15 this year, South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court heard.

Barrow drink driver found over double legal limit

A DRINK driver who was over double the limit was pulled over after he got in his car following an argument with his girlfriend, a court heard.

Marcel Toma, of Worcester Street, drove a Fiat Panda on Abbey Road on June 2 after drinking. He had 78 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Barrow man resisted arrest after refusing to provide breath sample

A FORMER member of the British Army refused to co-operate with a police line of inquiry into a suspected drink driving offence, a court heard.

Andrew Robinson, 52, of Mill Bank in Barrow, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis and resisting arrest when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.

Grange man in charge of car whilst twice over legal alcohol limit

A MAN has been slapped with a fine and penalty points after falling asleep at the wheel of his car while over the drink-drive limit.

Richard Walker, of The Crescent, Grange, was twice over the legal limit when road traffic officers conducted a roadside breath test on Grange Fell Road in Grange on July 7 this year.

Barrow teen involved in high-speed police pursuit whilst drug driving

A DRUG-driving teenager led police on a chase through Barrow streets at speeds up to 100 mph, a court heard.

Bailey Dutton, 18, of New Leys in Barrow, became involved in a high-speed police chase on March 4 this year, South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court heard.

Dangerous driver admits speeding in Barrow during Christmas

A HIGH-SPEED chase through Barrow during the Christmas shopping period could have led to 'horrific' consequences, magistrates said. 

Roscoe Cowsill, 32, of Parker Street in Barrow, admitted dangerous driving, not having insurance and failing to stop for police when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court in Barrow on July 15.

Motorist admits driving offence after incident on Barrow's Park Road

A MOTORIST who seriously injured a man in a collision has appeared in court charged with careless driving.

Konrad Patro admitted causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving after an incident on Park Road in Barrow last week.

Arnside man fined over £1,000 after drug driving on A6 near Kendal

A MAN has been fined over £1,000 by a court after his drug driving resulted in a road traffic collision with a lorry.

Daniel Harrison, 39, of Far Close Drive in Arnside, caused ‘extensive damage’ to his BMW 5 series when he smashed it into a waste disposal lorry on the A6 at Beetham on January 12 this year.

HGV driver who caused serious injury in Barrow incident avoids jail

A MAN who caused serious injury by driving carelessly has avoided immediate jail time.

Konrad Patro admitted causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving after an incident on Park Road in Barrow last month.

Dalton man sentenced for drug-fuelled police chase

DALTON man has been given a suspended sentence and a driving ban after he led police on a drug-fuelled car chase. 

Christian Brand, of King Street, appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates in Barrow on July 18.

Barrow man disqualified after drug driving at motorway service station

A MAN has been banned from driving for three years after he was caught drug driving while nearly five times over a specified limit.

Stephen Armstrong, of Goldsmith Street in Barrow, was stopped by road traffic officers in his Ford Transit van at the Junction 38 Tebay Service Station on January 12 this year.

Motorist caught drug driving has 'smoked cannabis since age of 14'

A VAN driver caught drug driving on a motorway told a court he had been smoking cannabis since the age of 14.

Barrow man Stephen Armstrong was driving on the M6 when he was stopped by police because of a fault with his car.

Woman caught drink driving after moving to Dalton due to Ukraine War

A UKRAINIAN national who emigrated to the UK because of the war has been sentenced for drink driving.

Oksana Kovalyuk, of Chapel Street in Dalton, was asked to conduct a roadside breath test by officers after she crashed her Nissan Micro in a BMW on the A5092 near Spark Bridge.
