An event is coming to Barrow later this month for people who were inspired by Dave Day.

Back in June, thousands of motorbike enthusiasts travelled from London to Barrow to celebrate the life of Barrovian Dave Myers.

Believing that the special occasion has left people wanting a taste of the biker life, Debbie Alstead has put together a special open day on Walney Island on Sunday, August 18.

She said: "Following Dave Day and some people commenting about how they would love to get into biking but weren’t sure if they should, or don’t know how, I suggested having an informal open day over in Barrow where people could come and chat to us about biking, or anything else.

"I thought it would be a nice thing to do for Barrow - I will be coming over with some friends from Route 59 near Skipton, including a few lady riders, and will be telling a couple of other biker groups that I know of."

Tav's Inn Burger Bar, found on Mill Lane in Walney, has already agreed to host the event.

The first-of-its-kind open day for the local area will take place between 1pm and 4pm, providing residents the perfect opportunity to learn more about getting into the lifestyle.

The Furness Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club will also be involved on the day in the hope that they will have plenty more members by the time the event is at an end.

Debbie added: "This is an opportunity for bikers and potential bikers of all ages and genders to meet, chat and network with the biking community.

"It's a chance for you to talk to us about how we got into bikes, our experiences, what a motorbike test involves, different motorcycle groups and plenty more beyond that.

"All bikers, non-bikers and those looking to get into biking are all welcome."
