Doors have reopened at a hospital ward in Barrow following a norovirus outbreak earlier this month.

Ward 6 at Furness General Hospital was closed to visitors on Wednesday, July 17 after the outbreak was said to be affecting patients and staff.

After nearly two weeks of disruption, the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation trust confirmed that people would be able to visit once again from the afternoon on Tuesday, July 30.

However, there are still specific conditions that people must follow to ensure that the site remains safe.

The trust stated that patients would only be allowed two visitors at one time, and that hand sanitisation must be done upon entry and exit of the ward.

The trust thanked all those affected by the closure for their patience and support.
