A new lakeside festival debuts in a jetty museum this August.

The Festival of the Lake, organised by Lakeland Arts, will take place on 17 August at Windermere Jetty Museum.

The event programme will include captivating talks, live music, lake-themed activities, and an opportunity to explore Windermere on a historic boat.

Live performances will be given courtesy of Nobody’s Friend Shanty Group, Fiona Hanlon, and Kev Kendal.

The Windermere Jetty Museum’s conservation team will show off traditional boatbuilding skills, as well as discussing recent restoration endeavours and tackling boat engineering.

The Windermere Model Boat Club Exhibition will be on the boating pond, where fascinating model vessel replicas will be on display, and attendees can try their hand at sailing one.

Outdoor activities will include wildlife watching, identifying native flora and fauna, skimming stones, and creating environmental art, with a sensory area to enjoy for younger children.

The Amazon, which featured in the 2016 film adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s classic children’s novel Swallows and Amazons, will be available for one-hour sailing trips throughout the day.

The Edwardian steam launch Osprey will also be setting sail regularly.

Stallholders occupying the museum will include the Steamboat Association, Friends of the Lake District, and a Waterbird stall, where a talk about the engineering of seaplanes will take place.

Talks will be on offer from the likes of the Windermere Jetty Museum's conservation team, Ken Burdon on the topic of 'Henry Segrave: British Pioneer in Land and Water Speed Records,' and Ian Gee on the topic of 'How Boats Were Built to Go Faster and Seaplanes Were Made to Take Off from Water.'

The Lakeshore Café will lay on a spread of beer and barbecue food from 12pm until the evening.

Lakeland Arts members and annual pass holders go free, while children must be accompanied by an adult.
